A Review of “Saga of Tanya the Evil”, and Why You Should be Watching it

Saga of Tanya the Evil is one of the new anime this season, and I’m already beyond impressed. Without trying to give too many spoilers, I will try to explain why I am enthralled with it so far.
Saga of Tanya the Evil
The main character is a little girl named Tanya, who is a military genius. But actually, she’s an adult male salaryman from Japan that has been reborn as a little girl into another world. Before he dies, he gets to speak with the creator. Realizing that the salaryman is one of little faith, the creator allows him to be reborn, so that hopefully he can improve himself and start to believe. Unfortunately for him, the world he is reborn into, is in the middle of a war. In order to escape poverty, Tanya volunteers into the army in order to more quickly climb the ladder of societal ranks and get a nice office job with a cup of coffee every morning. Every salaryman’s dream you know.

However if you haven’t noticed by the title of this anime, Tanya has a nasty personality. Like, real nasty. If you really want to know, the only other anime character that I can think of to explain Tanya’s personality, would be Yagami Light. Someone who is obsessed with power, is selfish, and thinks nothing of human lives. Someone who thinks they are the best, and they deserve everything they want. The difference is that one’s a loli and willing to get their hands dirty.
This anime really reminds me of Death Note. And I loved that anime, and if you loved Death Note, I assure you that you will love this anime too. Tanya is the kind of main character where you’re not sure if you should love them or hate them, but you can’t stop watching. Everything about them enthralls you. Do you cheer them on? Do you wish their downfall? The fact that’s she’s also a loli makes her so much harder to hate. But if you remind yourself that’s an adult male in there, you can almost convince yourself to try to hate Tanya a little more. But oh gosh she’s so scary and awesome. Best evil loli ever.

Saga of Tanya the Evil bears similarity to Death Note because of the religious tone in the anime as well. Just in this anime, it’s way more obvious. The creator is always trying to get Tanya to have faith. But she just refuses to believe they are who they say they are. Which makes me wonder… Will this anime have a happy ending for Tanya? Or just like Death Note, will Tanya meet an untimely demise? And that is what really keeps me watching. Is it possible to save someone like this? Can it, and will it happen? As I said, like with Death Note, you’re not sure which ending you would prefer. So I highly suggest you start watching it with me. So far there are only six episodes, so I am still waiting on the edge of my seat waiting for more.
