The 2011 indie RPG To The Moon (from Freebird Games) is set to be adapted into an animated film. Japanese studios will be producing the film, and chinese companies will also be involved in the funding. Game creator Kan Gao has stated that he can’t currently confirm which companies are involved in the project.
Originally released for PC and then adapted for iOS and Android, To The Moon is an adventure game about two doctors exploring the memories of an old man in order to fulfil his dying wish: to go to the moon. The game won Best Story at the GameStop “Game of the Year” awards in 2011, and the game is rated 81 / 100 on Metacritic.
Kan Gao is also involved in the script writing and advising on the adaptation. As of yet no release date has been given.
